Chef Karl’s Top 6 Brain Teaser Foods: Part 6
By Global Master Chef Karl Guggenmos
Today, we spotlight the final food in my top 6 list of brain teaser foods: Garbanzo Beans.
Garbanzo Beans or “chickpeas” are one of those ancient foods that have been a staple ingredient in Middle Eastern dishes like humus.
They were first cultivated in about 3000 BC and found their way to Europe in the 16th century.
They pack an extraordinary amount of folates and manganese, along with healthy fiber, protein, vitamin B-6, thiamine, zinc and copper.
They also contain a host of other nutrients supporting the fight against free radicals.
For brain health they support brain cell receptors speeding up brain messages and relaxing blood vessels to allow more blood to flow to the brain.
Use them cooked in broths, add to salads, make humus or use in soups and other great dishes.
